Success Story

Transalp 2.0

Transalp 2.0

My name is Sabine, I am a passionate mountain biker with a bit of a penchant for the unusual because I love challenges!

For a hobby athlete and pleasure biker like me, such a challenge is called “TRANSALP – 7 days – 450km – 12500hm” by bike from Garmisch-Partenkirchen across 4 countries to Lake Garda.

“Preparation is the be-all and end-all for a Transalp ” ..... I read it in one of my books. It also said: “Anyone who starts a Transalp unprepared will have a near-death experience every day.”

Okay, so this must be right for me, I thought :)

How it all began

In 2017 I drove the Transalp with my friend Raimund. Back then, too, I prepared for this project with my own training plans, lots of elevation gain in my legs and training in riding technique. It was a unique experience, even though I was at my limit and beyond every single day.

This experience has incredibly strengthened our bond with each other - together we can do anything!

In 2020, a circle of friends came up with the idea of conquering the Transalp again - this time with five people. I was hooked from the start, but one thing was clear to me: “I definitely didn’t want to be at my limits every day like I was back then.”

For this reason, a dear colleague recommended Berny to me as a coach to prepare me for my project with structured training. Basically I thought the idea was great. Who doesn't dream of having their own coach???

If it weren't for the ergometer riding. I've never been enthusiastic about cycling in a room. But my colleague didn't let up...

And so I took the first step and began my journey with Berny......

The workout

During the first lactate test, Berny introduced me to the vital monitor. Since I am a person who likes to plan in advance, at first it was unimaginable for me not to know what training was scheduled for the next day. But I embarked on this experiment and didn't regret it. Every day at around 5:15 (later on the weekend) I measure my vital signs and then always wait eagerly for Berny's instructions. Now I even enjoy ergometer training. I would never have thought that possible.

Since it is very important to me to balance family, job, household and training, daily training instructions tailored to my vital status turned out to be the optimal method. In addition, it is incredibly motivating that there is a “real person” behind the instructions and not just some standardized training recommendation.

Postponed is not cancelled

Unfortunately we had to cancel the Transalp 2021 due to the Covid regulations. This was followed by a summer of “just for fun” training for the benefit of my basic endurance. I wasn't ready for more at that time because my goal “Transalp” was simply no longer present. But postponed is not canceled!

The second round started at the beginning of October 2021. The date for the Transalp 2022 has been set, the goal is within reach again and so the training with Berny and the VM can continue.

TRANSALP - I'm coming!
